Why a Clinic Ceiling Is Not an Office Ceiling

The comparison matters because most commercial ceiling tile is specified and priced for office use. An office needs decent sound absorption and a clean appearance. A medical clinic needs those things plus meaningful speech privacy between rooms, resistance to humidity from cleaning protocols and HVAC cycling, and compliance with fire rating requirements that apply to healthcare occupancies. CAC, the ceiling attenuation class, measures how much sound the tile blocks from traveling through the plenum to an adjacent space. A tile can have a high NRC and a low CAC, which means it feels quieter in the room but does little to protect the conversation from traveling next door. Clinic exam rooms and consultation spaces typically need tiles with a meaningful CAC rating, not just a high NRC. Moisture and cleanability. Clinics are cleaned more aggressively than offices. Where the Ceiling System Ends and the Problem Begins
